Gold bounces from lows; jewellers buy

Gold rebounded on Monday after an early drop spurred buying from jewellers in Asia, but further gains could be limited by a rally in the US dollar amid persistent euro zone debt concerns.

Investors also closely watched an escalating tension in the Korean peninsula, although dealers said there were no signs of buying related to the crisis sparked by North Korea's artillery attack on a southern South Korean island.

Spot gold added $1.46 to $1,363.19 an ounce by 0327 GMT, having hit an intraday low at around $1,353 -- not far from a low around $1,350 seen last week. Bullion was below a lifetime high around $1,424 struck in early November.

According to a Reuters market analyst, Wang Tao, spot gold may extend its fall towards $1,329.45 per ounce as a big downward wave "C" is progressing.

"For today, I would look at support for gold at about $1,350. However, I think if we see a breach of this level, then we could see gold retreating further," said Ong Yi Ling, investment analyst at Phillip Futures in Singapore.

"For the week ahead, I will also expect gold prices to pass some of its gains that was accumulated earlier. Currently the gold and the dollar is having a pretty strong inverse relationship."

U.S. gold futures rose $1.1 an ounce to $1,363.5 an ounce.

The euro slipped to its lowest in two months against the dollar as the market looked past a rescue package for Ireland to other euro zone economies and a euro zone crisis resolution mechanism.

EU finance ministers endorsed an 85 billion-euro loan package to help Dublin cover bad bank debts and bridge a huge budget deficit, and approved outlines of a permanent crisis-resolution system which could make private bond holders share the burden of restructuring sovereign debt bought after 2013.

"The dollar is so strong, but we see buying on the physical side when trading started in Asia. That helps the market a bit. Some Chinese guys may be buying a bit," said dealer in Hong Kong.

"I would think $1,350 is a good support for gold, but I don't think we will go down too much even if we break that level."

Silver also bounced on firmer gold, platinum was flat, while palladium barely moved.

The world's largest silver-backed exchange-traded fund, iShares Silver Trust, said its holdings slipped to 10,711.23 tonnes by November 26 from an all-time high of 10,893.68 tonnes by Nov 23.

In other markets, the Nikkei edged higher as the yen softened against the dollar, oil rose past $84 and the dollar gained on fears of a financial market contagion engulfing other euro zone economies.

Channel Resources Resumes Exploration Drilling at Tanlouka Project

Channel Resources has resumed exploration drilling at the Tanlouka gold project in Burkina Faso, West Africa, with a 10,000m reverse circulation programme.

Initial drilling programme at Tanlouka's Mankarga Zone has resulted in the discovery of two separate mineralised zones in target areas 1.3km apart.

The targets have been outlined by soil geochemical and magnetic anomalies, high resistivity and chargeability structures, as well as extensive artisanal workings.

The company has expanded the drill programme for an additional 10,000m of reverse circulation drilling in approximately 65 holes at Mankarga 5.

A second focus of drilling is the Mankarga 1 structure, which is characterised by an east-west trending sheared and silicified gabbroic unit that is parallel to the magnetic fabric.

Mercator adjusts financial statements

Vancouver-based Mercator Minerals has amended its financial statements for the second and third quarter to reflect a mistake reported earlier this month, as well as further changes identified since then, the company said on Monday.

Mercator said on November 18 it had found an error related to copper revenue recognition, which would lower revenue and profit for the third quarter.

The firm has since also made additional amendments to the second- and third-quarter statements to account for the non-cash accounting effects of its copper hedging programme entered into during the second quarter, it said on Monday.

The changes resulted in increased net earnings for the second quarter to $23,43-million, compared with the previously reported $2,88-million.

However, third-quarter net earnings have been adjusted to a $75,88-million net loss, from the $10,68-million initially reported.

The company had said in its November 18 statement that third-quarter net-income would be revised down to $3,49-million.

Mercator operates the Mineral Park copper/molybdenum operation in Arizona and also has a copper project in Mexico.

The company reiterated that the changes had no effect on production figures.

Shares in Mercator declined 0,6% on Monday, to C$3,35 apiece by 16:00 in Toronto.

Anglo gives glimpse of Mine 2030 vision as it funds world-first Wits mine lab

Global mining major Anglo American gave a glimpse of its futuristic Mine 2030 vision as it provided a R9-million funding underpin for Wits University in South Africa's world-first mine design laboratory.

Anglo Chairman's Fund chairperson Norman Mbazima, who spoke to Mining Weekly Online on the sidelines of the official opening of the impressive new Wits facility, says that Anglo is targeting safe automated mining that is highly efficient and environmentally friendly.

"Our Mine of 2030 will seek to move as many people as possible out of harm's way," says Mbazima says, who lauds Wits for offering a design laboratory that has 100 networked personal computers and that projects data on to large floor-to-ceiling motorised screens that provide full lecturer/student interaction.

Anglo group head of mining Bill Abel tells Mining Weekly Online that the company is studying the advanced form that mining should take in 20 years' time.

"Our vision is to be a fully automated, zero-impact organisation," Abel adds.

He says that all the technology required already exists and needs to be configured in order to work cost effectively.

Alternative energy solutions are being examined to eliminate carbon footprints, with one Anglo mine studying the potential use of two kinds of solar energy.

Wits school of mining head Professor Fred Cawood says that the laboratory has been established to create "the next generation of mining engineers", who will be designing "the mine of the future" that is not only economically sound, but also environmentally responsible and good for health and safety.

"This is where the mine design action is going to take place," says Cawood.

Mining engineering undergraduate and postgraduate student numbers are standing at more than 3 800.

"There is no other mine design facility like this anywhere else in the world. We can accommodate up to 200 students at a time here," says Wits lecturer Bekir Genc, who project managed the building of the lab.

"Students numbers have been continuously increasing and we have had to repeat courses in the past because of the limited number of personal computers," Genc adds.

With 32 ceiling speakers allowing audible student/lecturer communication across a 500 m2 area, students now have arguably the best mine design lab in the world to do their capstone mine-design projects.

Wits vice chancellor Professor Loyiso Nongxa says that the university has an obligation to produce intellectual capital that is required by those investing in mining on the continent of Africa.

"This facility will help us to achieve that mission," Nongxa adds.

In the last three years, the private sector has invested a total of R50-million in the expansion of what is South Africa's oldest school of mining engineering, with sizeable contributions from Gold Fields, Xstrata and the London Metals Exchange.

Australia brings forward decision on carbon price

Australia's government intends to wrap up an agreement next year on pricing carbon, Prime Minister Julia Gillard said on Monday, testing the strength of her minority rule and pressing the accelerator on Canberra's climate change fight.

As world climate talks got underway in Mexico, Gillard said the government would bring forward by a year a decision on how to price carbon emissions, but left unclear whether a previous 2013 date for implementation of any scheme would stay in place.

Ruling Labor, she said, had to find a way to break a deadlock in the parliament over laws to price polluting emissions that conservative opponents have warned will massively drive up electricity and transport costs for voters.

"This Parliament is the master of its own destiny," Gillard told reporters. "I've said that 2011 needs to be the year that the nation decides on how we price carbon, with sufficient consensus that it can be legislated."

Labor won a second term in August elections, but needs support from three independents and a Green lawmaker to remain in power, leading to concern that Gillard's government might not survive a three-year term and be rocked by instability.

A decision in April not to pursue a cap-and-trade scheme to fight carbon emissions by the world's biggest per-capita emitter led many green-leaning voters to punish the party.

It also exacerbated industry uncertainty about climate policy, with Australia needing A$100-billion in fresh investment over the next decade to replace ageing coal-fired power stations providing 80% of its electricity.

Gillard's drive to overcome three rejections of carbon trading by lawmakers comes as officials from almost 200 nations gather in Mexico to try to agree on modest steps to slow climate shift.

Few expect the November 29 to December 10 meeting to reach an agreement to extend the present Kyoto climate pact beyond 2012, with the US at loggerheads with China, and hobbled in its own push to curb emissions after divisive recent elections.

Australia's government had previously aimed to start carbon trading with a A$10 ($9,64) fixed permit price by 2011-12, moving to full trade from 2012-13 to achieve a reduction in emissions of at least 5 percent over 2000 levels by 2020.

Gillard, stung by criticism that her government had not been bold enough on promised economic reforms, said 2011 would be a critical year to "walk the reform road", delivering on promises of health, pension increases, as well as carbon pricing.

"We need to force this matter through in 2011, that is through to a decision," she said. Aiding Labor will be a re-cast upper house Senate from July 1 dominated by sympathetic Greens.

Miners including BHP Billiton have warned the lack of a price on carbon is discouraging investment in renewable and clean-energy sources to replace ageing coal-fired power stations, while hampering low-carbon industry development.

The absence of a national scheme is also stoking fears among investors that state governments develop their own, widely diverging climate policies: a concern exacerbated at the weekend by elections in Victoria state.

The election delivered a surprise victory for opposition conservatives opposed to carbon pricing. The conservatives are also expected to win elections early next year in heavyweight New South Wales state, and possibly Queensland after that.

"The carbon tax that she ruled out before an election has now been ruled in since an election, and what that means is a massive increase in the cost of living for Australian households," conservative opposition leader Tony Abbott told parliament after Gillard's speech.

Gillard has set up a cross-party committee to advise on how to price carbon, and lawmakers will spend the next year deciding on a carbon tax or market-based system, or a mix of both.

Fenwei: Re-study of new energy and economic life cycle of coal

With growing understanding of our living environment and advances in science and technology, people now have reached consensus that developing new energy is the fundamental way out for world energy development. Some western countries have taken new energy as the important substitute in their short and medium term plans and the main energy sources in their medium and long term plans.

The Chinese government is attaching more attention to new energy development and has introduced many new measures over the years, in addition to new energy programs in the country's 11th Five-Year Plan (2006-2010).

All fossil fuels including coal, oil and natural gas are the result of accumulating and storing solar energy by living beings during the process of environment evolution on the planet: when the earth entered a relatively stable and suitable phase, algae in the ocean and plants on the land reproduced rapidly through photosynthesis until the earth environment changed due to some internal or external factors. With changing living environment, these living beings were buried deeply underground and turned out to the fossil fuels we use today.

In addition to nuclear and geothermal energy, all renewable energy sources including wind, tide, ocean current and bio-energy comes from the sun. And, solar energy is the fundamental source for endless energy supply in our planet.

Nowadays, with advanced and rapidly developing technology, people become capable of utilizing, collecting and storing solar energy and its derivatives. Therefore, fossil fuel would definitely be replaced by the renewable energy.

What we are facing now is that: on the one hand, with resources depleting, prices of fossil fuels keep climbing up; on the other hand, technology for applying new energy is advancing to bring down application costs.

When mapping out coal development strategy, we are facing one new issue----- the economic life cycle of coal. Fossil fuels like coal and oil would certainly be replaced prior to their exhaustion. And the application costs of new and nuclear energy should be far lower than that of utilizing traditional fossil fuels before such replacement occurs. As a result, fossil fuels would be forced to lower their prices and eventually their energy value would be terminated before running out, which is the so-called termination of economic value or economic cycle life of coal. How long would it be? Perhaps 50 years, 100 years, but not more than 200 years, not to mention 577 years--- the maximum exploitation period for China's coal resources within the depth of 2,000 meters, including a large amount of un-explored resources.

Iron Ore-Prices hover at 6-1/2-month highs, firm demand

Iron-ore prices steadied near six and a half-month highs on Monday, supported by fewer Indian supplies and demand from Chinese steel mills.

The Steel Index 62%  iron-ore benchmark stood at $166.50 a tonne, cost and freight in China, on Friday, versus $166,40 in the previous session.

The index hit $167 a tonne on Wednesday, its highest since May 13, and offers for Indian ore with 63,5% iron were expected to remain firm around $172 on Monday, traders said.

Chinese consultancy Mysteel said 63,5% grade Indian fines were offered at $170-$172 a tonne, C&F, on Monday.

"Iron ore prices are still witnessing a mild increase," said a trader in Rizhao in China's eastern Shandong province. "Chinese mills are still building stocks ahead of the new year and steel prices have been inching up."

China's daily crude steel output rose 0.4 percent to 1.607 million tonnes in the middle 10 days of November from the previous 10 days, data from the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) showed.

Despite China's campaign to limit steel production from September to meet energy efficiency targets, crude steel output for the whole of 2010 was still expected to hit a record 624-million tons, CISA said last week, with apparent consumption up about 5,6% to 596-million tons.

PREMIUM STATUS

"Iron ore is regaining its premium commodity status, rebounding strongly over the past couple of months as confidence returns to the Chinese steel market," ANZ said in its November report.

ANZ also said the recent mild build in iron ore stocks at Chinese ports suggests traders are returning to the seaborne market "to satisfy higher and more normal domestic steel capacity levels."

Tight iron ore supplies should continue to aid prices with the cold snap in China likely to slow domestic iron ore production, adding to concerns over limited Indian cargoes, said ANZ.

An ongoing ban on iron ore exports from the southern Karnataka state in India also kept supplies of high-grade material limited, traders said. Karnataka accounts for a quarter of shipments from India, the world's third-largest exporter of the steelmaking ingredient.

India's Supreme Court on Friday issued notices to the Karnataka state government asking why it must not admit an appeal by a miner that challenged the ban.

The Karnataka High Court earlier this month upheld the ban which has been in place since July as part of a state crackdown on illegal mining.

Prices of forward swaps cleared by the Singapore Exchange eased modestly, with the December contract slipping 33 cents to $161,67 a tonne, while first-quarter contracts dropped below $160 as investors locked in recent gains.

January was down 75c at $157,33, February eased 33 cents to $156 and March also dipped 33c to $154,67.

Silver coin sales set new records

Silver coin minting is expected to increase around 23% this year, to an all-time record, according to data from the Silver Institute and consultancy GFMS.

More than 32-million one-ounce silver coins have already been sold by the US mint this year under its American Eagle Silver Bullion coinage programme, exceeding the 28-million coins sold through the whole of 2009, the Silver Institute commented in a statement on Wednesday.

Should the current pace continue, sales will surpass 35 million coins by year's end, the group said.

Elsewhere, the Royal Canadian Mint has reported a 50% increase in sales of its silver Maple Leaf bullion coins, and similar strong growth is expected for the Australian Perth Mint's silver Kookaburra bullion coin, and the silver Philharmonic bullion coin issued by the Austrian Mint, the Silver Institute said.

Overall, US Mint sales of American Eagle Silver Bullion coins have increased by 223% over the past five years.

"While primarily purchased by investors, we expect to see continued growth in silver Eagle sales through the end of the year, especially with the holiday season approaching," Silver Institute executive director Michael DiRienzo said.

"A leading silver bullion dealer has repeated to us that they have seen a nearly 40% increase in silver bullion demand this year for products ranging from one-ounce coins to 100-ounce bars," he added.

The Silver Institute is a nonprofit international industry association headquartered in Washington, D.C.

Los Angeles – Miley Cyrus celebrated her 18th birthday two days early by hitting the stage at the American Music Awards barefoot and belting out "Forgiveness and Love," but it was a true teenager who swept the fan count on Sunday, Nov. 21, at the Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles.

Sixteen-year-old Justin Bieber trounced the competition at the 37th annual popularity contest, that is voted on by the general public and sponsored by ABC-TV, becoming the youngest person ever to win Artist of the Year. And as the show aired live, screams echoed for him from the upper tiers all night long. As one teen fan shrieked in a quiet moment, "Justin, I love you!"

You could barely hear Bieber sing as those adoring fans went crazy as he took to the stage midway through the show, following Rihanna's exuberant opening number, Cyrus' heartfelt ballad, Diddy-Dirty Money's rapping romp and the Black Eyed Peas' cool techno riff on their new single "The Time." Perhaps it was a sign that today's music business belongs to the young, as screams and cheers also met Taylor Swift as she sang her new single "Back to December" and accepted the favorite country female award.

"I want to thanks my fans," said the often-maligned Swift, one of America's most popular recording artists of the moment. "It's wonderful and rare to be understood, and you guys really get me."

Other top acts who performed included Kid Rock, Bon Jovi, Enrique Iglesias, Train, Pink, Ke$ha, Katy Perry, Santana, Ne-Yo, Christina Aguilera and Usher, who took home two awards of his own. But the finale was the thing that kept stars like Heidi Klum, Jessica Alba, Christina Milian, Samuel L. Jackson, Jenny McCarthy, Mandy Moore and Sheryl Crow in their seats to the end. For when the combined "boy bands" of New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys bounded onto the stage, not a person had left the three-hour-long show. Promoting their combined tour that launches in 2011, the not-so-young nine reminded many of the older set of their own youth, singing a medley of their hits from 15 years ago.

Later on, the adults in the crowd headed to the hottest after party, the opening of the new Rolling Stone Restaurant and Lounge, where that magazine's publisher Jann Wenner held court in a private room. He greeted most of the night's stars from the earlier show, everyone from Bon Jovi, Iglesias and Kid Rock to Perry and her husband, Russell Brand, along with Jamie Foxx, Brandy, Brittany Snow and the "Glee" guys, Mark Salling and Matthew Morrison.

Did Harry Potter's Tom Felton Father a Secret Love Child?

No need to conduct a paternity test: British actor Tom Felton says that contrary to Internet rumors, he isn't the father of a secret love child.

On November 21, a postcard featuring photos of Felton, 23, and six of his Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows costars was published on the Post Secret website.

PHOTOS: Harry Potter actors, then and now

The anonymous postcard read: "One of these men is the father of the most amazing little girl in the world. He's never met her. He never will. He probably can't even remember my name."

The shocking rumor sent Harry Potter fans into a frenzy, which prompted Felton, who is dating film assistant Jade Olivia, to address the rumor on Twitter.

PHOTOS: Celebs who faced pregnancy rumors

"My friend just found this on the web! Just to confirm that I can be cancelled out of this equation," he wrote Wednesday, linking to the postcard.

Twins Oliver and James Phelps, who play George and Fred Weasley respectively, also denied the report.

"Apart from making me laugh, I can honestly say it's 100% not me," Oliver, 24, said on Twitter Thursday.

PHOTOS: Harry Potter stars as kids

Added James: "To clear things up, this isn't me. Funny, but nothing to do with me."

The remaining four Harry Potter stars who appear on the postcard -- Daniel Radcliffe, 21, Rupert Grint, 22, Jason Isaacs, 47, and Alan Rickman, 64 -- have yet to comment.

Defiant North Korea fires artillery warning shots

YEONPYEONG ISLAND, South Korea – A defiant flash of North Korean artillery within sight of the island that it attacked this week sent a warning signal to Seoul and Washington: The North is not backing down.

The apparent military drill Friday came as the top U.S. commander in South Korea toured Yeonpyeong island to survey the wreckage from the rain of artillery three days earlier. As a U.S. nuclear-powered aircraft carrier headed toward the Yellow Sea for exercises next week with South Korea, the North warned that the joint maneuvers will push the Korean peninsula to the "brink of war."

South Korea's government, meanwhile, struggled to recoup from the surprise attacks that killed four people, including two civilians, and forced its beleaguered defense minister to resign Thursday. President Lee Myung-bak on Friday named a former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to the post.

Tensions have soared between the Koreas since the North's strike Tuesday destroyed large parts of Yeonpyeong in a major escalation of their sporadic skirmishes along the disputed sea border.

The attack — eight months after a torpedo sank a South Korean warship, killing 46 sailors — has laid bare Seoul's weaknesses in defense 60 years after the Korean War. Lee has ordered reinforcements for the 4,000 troops on Yeonpyeong and four other Yellow Sea islands, as well as top-level weaponry and upgraded rules of engagement.

The heightened animosity between the Koreas comes as the North undergoes a delicate transition of power from leader Kim Jong Il to his young, inexperienced son Kim Jong Un, who is in his late 20s and is expected to eventually succeed his ailing father.

Washington and Seoul have pressed China to use its influence on Pyongyang to ease tensions amid worries of all-out war. A dispatch Friday from Chinese state media saying Beijing's foreign minister had met the North Korean ambassador appeared to be an effort to trumpet China's role as a responsible actor and placate the U.S. and the South.

The North sees the U.S.-South Korean drills scheduled to start Sunday as a major military provocation. Pyongyang unleashed its anger over the planned exercises in a dispatch earlier Friday.

"The situation on the Korean peninsula is inching closer to the brink of war," the report in the North's official Korean Central News Agency said.

A North Korean official boasted that Pyongyang's military "precisely aimed and hit the enemy artillery base" as punishment for South Korean military drills — a reference to Tuesday's attack — and warned of another "shower of dreadful fire," KCNA reported.

China expressed worry over any war games in waters within its exclusive economic zone, though the statement on the Foreign Ministry website didn't mention the drills starting Sunday. That zone extends 230 miles (370 kilometers) from China's coast and includes areas south of Yeonpyeong cited for possible maneuvers, although the exact location of the drills is not known.

North Korea does not recognize the maritime border drawn by the U.N. in 1953, and considers the waters around Yeonpyeong Island its territory.

Yeonpyeong Island, home to South Korean military bases as well as a civilian population of about 1,300 people, lies only seven miles (11 kilometers) from North Korean shores.

The U.S. commander in South Korea, Gen. Walter Sharp, said during a visit to the island that Tuesday's attack was a clear violation of the armistice signed at the end of the three-year Korean War.

"We at United Nations Command will investigate this completely and call on North Korea to stop any future attacks," he said.

Washington keeps more than 28,000 troops in South Korea to protect its ally — a sore point for North Korea, which cites the U.S. presence as the main reason behind its drive to build nuclear weapons.

Dressed in a heavy camouflage jacket, army fatigues and a black beret, Sharp carefully stepped down a devastated street strewn with debris and broken glass. Around him were charred bicycles and shattered bottles of soju, Korean rice liquor.

On Friday, Associated Press photographers at an observation point on the northwest side of Yeonpyeong heard explosions and saw at least one flash of light on the North Korean mainland.

There were no immediate reports of damage. Only a few dozen residents remain on Yeonpyeong, with most of its population fleeing in the hours and days after the attack as authorities urged them to evacuate.

Many houses were burned out, half-collapsed or flattened, and the streets were littered with shattered windows, bent metal and other charred wreckage. Several stray dogs barked as they sat near destroyed houses. South Korean marines carrying M-16 rifles patrolled along a seawall at dawn.

About 200 South Koreans held a rally Friday in Seoul to denounce the government's response to the attack as too weak. Similar recriminations have come from opposition lawmakers and even members of Lee's own party, leading to the resignation of Defense Minister Kim Tae-young on Thursday.

There also has been intense criticism that Yeonpyeong was unprepared for the attack and that the return fire came too slowly. Lee named former Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman Kim Kwan-jin to the post, the president's office said Friday.

While there is some shock at the extent of the damage the North Koreans were able to inflict, most South Koreans want the threat to be contained, not aggravated, and the government response has been muted and cautious, following an initial angry threat from Lee.

The president, dressed in a black suit, visited a military hospital in Seongnam near Seoul on Friday to pay his respects to the two marines killed in the North Korean attack.

Lee laid a white chrysanthemum, a traditional symbol of grief, on an altar, burned incense and bowed before framed photos of the two young men. Consoling sobbing family members, he vowed to build a stronger defense.

"I will make sure that this precious sacrifice will lay the foundation for the strong security of the Republic of Korea," he wrote in a condolence book, according to his office.

South Korea assured a meeting of the European Olympic Committees on Friday that it would be able to ensure security at the 2018 Winter Games if it's picked. The Pyeongchang 2018 bid committee presented its case Friday in Belgrade.

Mechanical knowledge: how to select mining equipment screening machinery

To select mining equipment in the griddle, we must first understand the classification of screening machinery; structure and working principle; secondly to consider their respective advantages and disadvantages; then there are know their scope of application.
(1) Fixed Screen: Working part fixed and, by leaving the material sliding along the face materials are screening. Fixed grid screen is used more as a concentrator, generally used for rough, broken or in pieces before the pre-screening. It is simple structure, convenient. Does not consume power, the ore can be unloaded directly into the screen surface. The main disadvantage is the production of low screening efficiency is low, generally only 50-60%.
(2) roller screens: Face of horizontally arranged by the rolling axis consisting of a root, shaft has plates, fine-grained material from the gap between rollers or plates through.Bulk material from the roller-driven movement to and from the end of the discharge end.Rarely use this sieve concentrator.
(3) Cylinder Screen: Working part is cylindrical, rotating the screen around the cylinder axis, the axis is not in general downloading into the inclination. Materials from one end of the cylinder to the entry of fine-level work surface materials from the barrel through the sieve, coarse material discharged from the other side of the cylinder.Cylinder Screen speed is very low, smooth, good power balance. But its easy to plug the sieve screening efficiency is low, the work area is small, low productivity.Concentrator rarely use it to make screening equipment.
(4) plane motion screens: the body is wobble or vibration of a plane. According to the trajectory plane is divided into linear motion, circular motion, elliptical motion and complex motion. Shaking screen and shaker in this category.
(5) shaking screen: is the crank as the transmission components. Motor through belt and pulley drive eccentric shaft rotation, so that the body through the connecting rod for reciprocating movement along a certain direction. The direction of motion perpendicular to the body or suspension strut rod centerline, because the body of the swing movement, the screen surface material to a certain speed to move the discharge end, the material also be screening. Several sieve with the shaking screen compared to the relatively high productivity and screening efficiency. The disadvantage is the driving force is poorly balanced. Concentrator is now rarely used it, and be more structured shaker instead.
The most widely used in the concentrator, according to the different driving mechanism, but also can be divided into the following categories: Eccentric Vibrating Screen, Vibrating Screen, self-centering shaker, resonance screen

'Harry Potter' Stars (Jokingly) Dis 'Twilight' While Speaking 'American'

It's almost time for hardcore "Harry Potter" fans to break out the costumes! The next-to-last flick in the wizard series, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1" hits theaters Thursday at midnight.
Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, and Daniel Radcliffe smile for the cameras at the premiere of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1" in London. Dave Hogan/Getty Images
Photos: Stars of 'Harry Potter' on the Red Carpet
Gear up for the big event by watching a funny new clip from MTV that shows stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, and Tom Felton dropping their British accents to talk like they're from the United States. The four attempt to say very American phrases that we all, um, frequently toss around here, such as "Can I get an order of mozzarella sticks, please?" and "Justin Bieber is the man." At one point, they're even asked to -- gasp! -- dis "Twilight." Daniel apologized to his pal (and former "Harry Potter" cast member) RPattz before repeating it, and poor Emma was so surprised that she couldn't even utter the words.
Why Isn't There a 3-D Version of 'Potter?'
All of this is very entertaining, but it begs the question of which is the more beloved book-turned-movie franchise. My vote goes to "Harry Potter," mostly because I get nostalgic about having seen the kids grow up onscreen. Plus, Hogwarts Academy is so much more magical than Forks, Washington. But I know there are plenty of Twi-hards out there ready to cast a vote for the vampires ... and werewolf Taylor Lautner!
Does the New 'Harry Potter' Still Have Magic?

Palin's TV series a stage for political future?

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – "Sarah Palin's Alaska" portrays the show's heroine as an adventure-loving wife and mother enjoying a whirlwind of activities amid spectacular settings in her home state. There are no overt clues to her future political ambitions.
However, throughout the first episode of the eight-part TLC documentary series beginning Sunday, Palin's outdoorsy image against the stunning scenery often plays nicely with her familiar political message.
One telling scene shows Palin and members of her family fishing near a bear and two frolicking cubs. Cut to the Tea Party darling and her self-sufficiency speech. For months, Palin has referred to strong Republican female candidates as "mama grizzlies."
"I love watching these mama bears," Palin tells the TLC camera. "They've got a nature, yeah, that humankind could learn from. She's trying to show her cubs, 'Nobody's gonna do it for ya. You get out there and do it yourself, guys.'"
Translation: Stop relying on government.
That scene and others are sure to suggest to some viewers that the former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee is positioning herself for a 2012 presidential run.
There are other messages that seem to conflict with those ambitions, though. Palin talks about her love of wild Alaska, offering in one well-known homily, "A poor day of fishing beats even a great day at work."
In a promo for the show with a montage of outdoor scenes, she says, "I'd rather be doing this than in some stuffy old political office" and "I'd rather be out here being free."
Then come the snippets that easily could fill in as campaign slogans, particularly with Palin's very political tweets, Facebook postings and other media forums. Her Alaska landscapes also loom larger than life.
"What all this suggests is that she's crafting her lifestyle and her biography as typifying a person who's independent, rugged, resilient, in touch with nature and has learned life lessons that she can bring into governance if she moves back into governance," said Kathleen Hall Jamieson, a University of Pennsylvania communications professor who studies political rhetoric.
"It also could be life lessons to get to lead a better life in the rugged frontiers," Jamieson said. "They have to have that duo message or this will read as if it's a political ad."
In a scene outside the family's Wasilla home, viewers see the 14-foot-high fence the Palins erected when author Joe McGinniss moved next door to work on a book about Palin.
"By the way, I thought that was a good example," Palin says on TLC. "What we just did, others could look and say, 'Oh, this is what we need to do to secure our nation's border.'"
The intent of the series is not clear — is she merely showing off a state she truly loves with off-the-cuff remarks, or are these the opinions of the paid Fox News consultant subtly laying the groundwork for a presidential bid?
Of course, with a production of this magnitude, money also could be a powerful motivation.
Palin, who could not be reached for comment, reportedly was seeking as much as $1.5 million per episode in pitching the show earlier this year, according to The Hollywood Reporter. TLC, a division of Discovery Communications, has refused to divulge Palin's cut from the series, which is produced by Mark Burnett of "Survivor" fame.
Alaska has a fairly new film office that offers incentives including a 30 percent tax credit to qualifying productions filming in the state. It's not clear if TLC's Palin series is tapping into the program — Burnett's office did not respond to requests for comment — which could mean the show ultimately would be subsidized by the state.
Alaska film office manager Dave Worrell said he could discuss only productions that have already received incentives and Palin's show is not among them. The program is open to any production that spends at least $100,000 in Alaska, with added incentives for Alaska hires, as well as offseason and rural shoots.
History's "Ice Road Truckers," for example, spent almost $1.2 million in the state, earning almost $400,000 in incentives, according to Worrell.
As far as TLC spokeswoman Laurie Goldberg is concerned, the series is "a love letter to Alaska."
Well, except for one temporary Alaskan.
In the debut episode, viewers catch a glimpse of McGinniss reading on his balcony as Palin and her family make snide remarks about the author they say has intruded on their privacy. They charge that he is writing a hit piece on them. McGinniss, who has since moved out, says he was filmed without his knowledge or consent and he's demanding through his attorney that it be removed from the episode, according to Slate.com.
The California attorney, Dennis Holahan, did not return multiple calls seeking comment. Goldberg said she had no comment and referred questions to Burnett's office, which also did not return calls.
If the series is about more than Palin's love for the state, it would be hard to overlook the irony of a former governor who abruptly resigned in July 2009 with 17 months left in her first term. Take the footage of Palin struggling to climb a steep rocky slope in Denali National Park.
"About halfway up the rock, I did not know if I was going to be able to finish the task," she tells the camera. "But I didn't want to quit. I didn't want to quit in front of other people.

Spider-Man musical stuck in a web of troubles

NEW YORK – The bugs apparently still need to be worked out on Broadway's version of Spider-Man.
Producers of "Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark" have been forced to delay by three weeks the official opening of the costly and complicated show, and it will only open its doors for previews after the busy Thanksgiving holiday.
"Shows like ours, that embrace the challenge of opening on Broadway without an out-of-town tryout, often need to adjust their schedules along the way," lead producer Michael Cohl said in a statement released Friday, citing an "unprecedented level of technical artistry."
Originally scheduled to begin previews on Nov. 14 with an opening four days before Christmas, the show will now begin previews on Nov. 28 and finally open on Jan. 11, a less-than-ideal timetable for luring the crowds that descend on Broadway over the holidays.
"That's usually a sign that there's trouble in River City," says Robert Westenberg, a Tony Award-nominated actor whose Broadway credits include "Les Miserables," "Zorba" and the original 1987 run of "Into the Woods," which he recalls was delayed for several weeks while Stephen Sondheim tinkered with the musical before it finally opened. When it did, it ran for two years.
Westenberg, who now teaches theater at Drury University in Springfield, Mo., says many reasons can delay a show's opening, including weak stories or songs, unfinished costumes, not-ready-for-prime-time production values and unready stars.
"They have to do this cost-benefit analysis in terms of how many weeks is it going to take to hammer it into the kind of shape where it's going to be critic-proof, and how many weeks can they afford to do that without anybody coming in to put money in the coffers," he says. "It's a tough call."
The reported $60 million musical is, by any measure, a huge undertaking. It will have a 41-member cast, 18 orchestra members and aerial stunts designed by a longtime Cirque du Soleil alum that will shoot actors up to 40 mph through the air and over the audience. Its promotional material promises "a thrilling experience in ways never-before-dreamed-possible in live theater."
The delay is just the latest blow for a musical that has been in the works for more than six years. Producers have come and gone, and so have cast members: Evan Rachel Wood and Alan Cumming were once cast as Mary-Jane and the Green Goblin. At one point, the musical was supposed to open in February 2010.
Besides timing troubles, two on-set accidents have injured actors, including one who had both his wrists broken when he practiced an aerial stunt. And inspectors from the New York State Department of Labor, which must approve all stunts that go over an audience, were unable to complete a recent safety review; producers said they were unprepared to show all the stunts in one day.
"I'm not surprised that 'Spider-Man' is delayed," said a longtime theater producer not connected to the comic book musical, who asked that his name not be used so he would not damage his relations in the Broadway community. "They are building a musical that costs three times as much as the biggest musical we've seen previously."
Until now, "Shrek the Musical," which opened in 2008, is believed to be Broadway's costliest show with a price tag reported to have been $25 million and it failed to make its investors money. By comparison, "The Phantom of the Opera" cost about $12 million in 1988 — around $22 million in today's dollars — and "Wicked" cost $14 million to mount in 2003 and both are still chugging along on Broadway and are two of the most successful shows ever.
The Spider-Man musical will star relative unknowns — Reeve Carney as Peter Parker, Jennifer Damiano as Mary Jane Watson and Patrick Page as the Green Goblin — in the story by Glen Berger and Julie Taymor, who is also directing. The music is by U2's Bono and The Edge, and features moody guitar-heavy arena rock, including the song "Boy Falls From the Sky," which U2 has been playing on tour.
During a set visit in early October, Taymor, who won a Tony Award for directing "The Lion King," was firmly in charge and the technical run-through seemed relaxed. Cohl said things were on track, both financially and in terms of schedule. He would not comment to The Associated Press on Friday.
Other shows this month have had complications. The opening of a musical based on Pedro Almodovar's "Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown," which, like "Spider-Man" originated on Broadway without benefit of a practice run elsewhere, was also delayed and opened to mostly negative reviews, citing an unfocused production. And the upcoming Broadway opening of "The Merchant of Venice" has been delayed after actress Lily Rabe pulled out for several preview performances citing family reasons.
But "Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark" has drawn the most attention because of its sheer size and audacity. The producer not connected with the show says he still has hope.
"I wouldn't count them out just yet," he said. "We're about to see something exciting. Whether it can pay for itself is a whole other issue."
